What is Patitas en Casa?

Patitas en Casa is a free platform that connects people who wish to give companion animals up for adoption with people looking to adopt. We act as intermediaries, facilitating contact between both parties.

Is it free to use the platform?

Yes, completely. Registration, posting ads, and sending adoption requests are totally free. We do not charge commissions or fees.

Can I sell animals on this platform?

NO. The sale of animals is strictly prohibited. Only free adoptions are allowed. Ads mentioning prices, sales, or payments will be automatically removed and the account may be suspended.

For adopters

How can I adopt an animal?

  1. Register on the platform
  2. Browse available animals
  3. Fill out the detailed adoption form (7 steps)
  4. The giver will review your request
  5. If you are accepted, you will coordinate the handover directly

How much does adoption cost?

Adoption is free. However, some givers may request that the animal be already sterilized/neutered, vaccinated, or dewormed. In some cases, they may ask for a contribution to cover these prior veterinary costs, but this must be agreed upon directly between both parties.

Will there be a home visit?

It depends on the giver. Many shelters and responsible individuals conduct prior visits to verify that the home conditions are suitable. By filling out the form, you accept this possibility.

What documents do I need?

Generally, you will need your ID card (DNI/NIE). The giver will provide the animal's vaccination record and microchip documentation. After adoption, you must change the microchip ownership to your name within 30 days (required by law).

For givers

Who can post an animal?

Any individual, shelter, or organization that has a companion animal needing a new home. You must be the legal owner of the animal or have authorization to give it up for adoption.

What information should I include in the ad?

The more information, the better:

  • Name, species, breed (if known), age, sex
  • Health status, vaccines, sterilization
  • Character, temperament, special needs
  • Clear and recent photos
  • Reason for adoption (optional but recommended)

How do I select the adopter?

You will receive detailed applications with information about housing, experience, motivation, etc. You decide who is the best adopter. You can ask for references, make home visits, or request more information.

What happens after adoption?

You can follow up during the adaptation period. Some givers sign an adoption contract with return clauses if things don't work out. The platform does not intervene in these private agreements.

Legal Aspects

Does the platform guarantee anything?

NO. Patitas en Casa is an intermediary platform. We do not guarantee the health status, behavior, or characteristics of the animals. The responsibility lies exclusively with the giver and the adopter.

What does the law say about animal adoption?

Law 7/2023 establishes obligations for pet owners:

  • Identification via microchip (mandatory)
  • Registration in the municipal census
  • Rabies vaccination (dogs and in some communities, cats)
  • Civil liability insurance (dogs)
  • Prohibition of mistreatment, abandonment, or unjustified sacrifice
  • Obligation of sterilization (in some cases)

What do I do if I detect a case of mistreatment?

You can report it through the platform's complaint system. We will review the case and, if appropriate, suspend the offender's account. You can also report it to the authorities (Local Police, SEPRONA, local shelters).

Data Protection

What data do you collect?

We collect name, email, phone, address (optional), and the information you fill in adoption forms. Check our Privacy Policy for more details.

Do you share my data with third parties?

We only share your contact details with the giver of the animal you apply to adopt. This is necessary so they can contact you. We do not sell or transfer data to external companies.

Can I delete my account?

Yes. You can request the deletion of your account and all your data at any time from your profile or by contacting us. They will be deleted within 30 days.
